Our Italian Adventure: Ge
tting ThereWe would spend eleven-and-a-half hours in the air, and four-and-a-half on the ground, with the two plane changes. The "getting there" portion included a stop in Paris, which sounded exciting, but we spent our Paris portion of the trip in Charles De Gaulle airport, and we didn't even see the Eiffel Tower upon landing.
The view from our room was a blend of new and old: the modern Bambino Gesú hospital was directly in front, up a hill, and an older North American school for priests was below it. Directly opposite our room were other residences. One was modern but still used the ruins of an older wall as a border. It had a lemon tree with fruit the size of my fist! Flowers were everywhere--a delight for us after coming from the ice and snow covered Midwest.
Maria and I rested and settled in. We asked Aldo for dinner suggestions within walking distance and then headed out for our first Italian meal.
Mangia!
My next entry will be about the delightful foods that we experienced on our trip.
